Free QR code generator
Make a static QR code for a link, a Wi-Fi network, an email, a phone call or a text message. The content is stored in the pattern itself, so the code keeps working with no account, subscription or redirect service.
- Free to use
- No sign-up
- No watermark
- Personal and commercial use
- Runs in your browser
Use a domain you control, so you can change where it points without reprinting.

This is a static QR code: the content is inside the pattern, so it does not expire and needs no account. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Free for personal and commercial use, with no watermark. Scan the downloaded file with two different phones before you print.
How to make a QR code that works on paper
- Choose what the code should do. A link is the most flexible choice: you can update the page later without reprinting.
- Keep the content short. Less data means larger squares (modules) at the same printed size, which phones read faster and from farther away.
- Pick error correction. M is a sensible default. Choose Q or H if the code will get scuffed or wet. Higher levels make the pattern denser.
- Download SVG for print. It stays sharp at any size. PNG is fine for slides and documents.
- Leave the white border. The four-module quiet zone around the code is part of it. Don't let text or artwork crowd it.
- Test before you print a batch. Scan a printed sample with an iPhone and an Android phone at the distance people will actually stand.
Size depends on scanning distance and how much data the code holds. The QR code size and error correction guide covers the rules of thumb and their limits.
What each type of QR code does
| Type | What the phone offers to do | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Link (URL) | Open the web page | Menus, manuals, product pages, reviews |
| Wi-Fi | Join the network without typing the password | Guest networks in shops, offices and rentals |
| Start a new email with the address, subject and message filled in | Support requests, order inquiries | |
| Phone | Offer to call the number | Service stickers, signs |
| Text message | Open a new text message to the number | Opt-in keywords, quick replies |
| Plain text | Show the text | Short notes, codes, serial numbers |
Each phone and camera app decides how to present these actions, so wording and steps differ between devices.
Static QR codes don't expire
Some QR services print a short link that points to their server and then charge to keep it working. Those “dynamic” codes stop working when the subscription or the service ends. A static code made here holds your content directly. The only thing that can break it is what it points to, such as a web page you delete or a domain you let lapse. More in Do QR codes expire?
Privacy
The QR code is drawn in your browser. Your link, Wi-Fi password or message is not sent to this site or stored by it. Remember that anyone who can photograph a Wi-Fi QR code can join that network, so use a guest network for codes on public display.
QR code or barcode?
Store checkout scanners have traditionally read linear barcodes such as UPC, and many older scanners cannot read QR codes at all. For product identification at checkout, read QR code vs barcode before switching. For a linear barcode, use the barcode generator.
